Welcome back to ca1dmat.org, electronic lovers. It’s Jackie Rose here with another new exciting post from a fellow electronic lover. Today, I’ve had a lot on my mind so I wanted to write out my musings in a way that will allow me to examine them afterwards so apologies if this blog post seems more chaotic compared to previous ones.
I love electronics so much but at the same time I’ve been worried about where technology is heading. From the AI stock bubble to asteroid defense systems, the human race is facing a lot of techy stuff and while it’s easy for someone like me to appreciate it I can also sympathize with the anti-future crowd who sees doom on the horizon. I’m not saying I see doom coming but I do sympathize because it can seem that way when we see robots attacking humans on TikTok and hear of self-driving cars driving into people on the news.
Imagine how scared people would get if 2026 was the year we gave AI autonomy to powerful technology like 35-ton tow trucks! If you don’t think a robot controlling a massive trucks is scary then you need to reconsider this. Are you kidding me? Have you seen a 35-ton tow truck before? They’re massive, and can tow anything from busses to 18-wheelers. I know because I had to order service in Hamilton, Ontario recently and the thing literally dragged my friend’s RV out of a ditch like it was a toy. Once AI can control things like this then they better have serious safety protocols in place. I’ll show you a photo of the 35-ton tow truck I’m talking about so you can see what I mean. Imagine AI controlling this!
At the same time, bear with me here because if we can’t trust AI to drive and operate a simple tow truck on our behalf then how can we trust them to mine minerals on asteroids or operate deep undersea submarines for scientific sampling? Can you sea my dilemma here (pun intended)? On one side I’m scared to see AI driving huge trucks past my car on the highway but the other part of me is excited about the benefits that AI will have in space and undersea exploration.
It’s crazy that just in 2021 I was excited about something as small as paying for appliance repair with cryptocurrency. Now that isn’t even likely to happen because no one trusts crypto thanks to all the scams and rug pulls. Will the same thing happen with AI? I don’t think so because AI is a whole different type of beast, and when powered by quantum computing it will likely be able to hack through any crypto’s blockchain security, making AI relevant while crypto becomes increasingly insecure. That’s why I think the crypto market didn’t recently mimic the giant silver and gold price explosion we’ve seen in the past few months.
With AI, we’ll be able to send highly intelligent ships to distant planets and have humanoid workers to safely do tasks for us. According to the Wikipedia article on Optimus, Tesla’s humanoid robot, Elon Musk already announced that he plans to put his robots on a mission to Mars. This isn’t science fiction, this is reality and it’s awesome.
So while it’s awesome, it’s scary, and while it’s scary, it’s awesome. So I can only pray that it the awesomeness will outweigh the scary stuff as this AI tech advances into the future alongside us curious humans. I hope you enjoyed my musings.
